5 Drinks to avoid during Pregnancy

There are many drinks that we are habituated to and these seem completely harmless in our day-to-day lives. But much of what we eat and drink pass through the placenta and affects the baby. These common and popular drinks can be potentially harmful to us and the baby-in-the-womb.

Let me highlight a few of them here:

ALCOHOL: Alcohol is the number #1 drink on our list. Drinking during conception and in the first trimester of pregnancy may increase chances of miscarriage.

COFFEE: Coffee contains caffeine, which is associated with lower birth weight.

ENERGY DRINKS: Energy Drinks are a mocktail of different additives – led by caffeine, taurine, carnitine, ginseng, etc. None of them are good for the growing fetus.

GREEN TEA: A few cups of Green Tea may be harmless. But, when consumed regularly in large quantities, green tea is potentially harmful as is contains caffeine.

UNPASTEURIZED MILK: Unpasteurized milk may contain dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria, which are responsible for causing numerous food-borne illnesses.

Instead of the above drinks, choose fresh fruit juices, coconut water, smoothies and lemonade preferably made at home.

Drink healthy for a happy pregnancy !
